I hear you on that, but I'd have to spend a couple months with a program before I'd be able to design a control set up for it and I just don't have the time for that right now.
Hopefully, we can get some other members on here that are familiar with it to help you out.

I d/ld the manual for SX3, I hope that’s the version you’re using. You may want to go to page 348 in the Operation Manual for more info, but here’s what I get from it.
You go to Device Set Up and select Generic Remote. Then you select Generic Remote from the Devices list to access the parameters. Set the MIDI Input to padKontrol Port A, don’t worry about MIDI Output.
In the upper window, you have a bunch of listings that start with Fader 1. Click on the name Fader 1 and switch it to Play (I assume you’ll have that as an option, but can’t say for sure). Then hit the pad on the pK you want to use for play and hit the Learn button.
In the lower window, click on the name Fader 1 and switch it to Play (again I’m assuming you’ll have that option).
Repeat the process for all the controls you want to use.
I hope that helps.

My fault...the manual can only tell you so much. I'm sure there's some way to do it in Cubase itself. But, if not, you can always use Bome's MIDI Translator. That will let you use the pK to send key commands to Cubase. For example, a lot of programs use Enter for Play/Stop. Translator will let you assign Enter to a pad on the pK. That will work for basically any key command.
