Click here for Stray's excellent tutorial on setting up control surfaces in Live 6. Including hacking remote user files for surfaces not supported by InstantMapping. Very easy to follow. Gives a sick amount of possibilities for creatin on the fly!

One question on the Live device selection...
I tried selecting a track holding impulse and pressing ALT+UP, DOWN or ALT+UP ,(release ALT) DOWN to select device for instant mapping but neither way worked.
Did I get something wrong?
Thanks,
B.

Thanks for posting this.
For the Alt+Up, Down command to work, you need to have the track selected. If you have a different track or something else in Live selected, it won’t work.

Hi all. First of all i wanna thank Stray for the vids he made. You are the best. Ive just bought padKontrol.. but cant set it work with Cubase (i mean transport functions, remote control and stuff). So i decided to try Live. I made everything like you said in this vid but...dunno... asigning doesnt work... Can u help me to set it for Cubase? Or for Live (seems like ill spend this month learning this monster). here is my prefs - midi setings Shot at 2007-07-10 There is no padKontrol shown in "Control surfaces"... All drivers installed...dont know wtf is wrong (((

For assigning stuff like transport, track arming, etc…you don’t need to use a control surface. Just turn the Track and Remote switches on, go into MIDI mapping mode and start assigning stuff. That’s all explained in the very first part of the video.
In order to use Instant Mapping to control plug ins, you need to set up a user remote script for the padKontrol and then it will show up under control surfaces. I didn’t explain that in this vid because it’s sort of complex since the pK only has 2 knobs and the x/y. In the vid, I explained how to do it with the knobs on one of my synths.
I have a user remote script for the pK in the Total Kontrol Package, but I wouldn’t recommend using it. There’s some compatibility issues with certain plug ins that I didn’t know about it until after it was released. I will be revamping it, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
As far as Cubase, I don’t use it and don’t know very much about it, so I can’t really help there.

Just out of curiosity, what happens when you go into MIDI mapping mode, click on a control in Live (like play for example) and hit a pad on the pK? You don’t see a controller mapping on top of play in Live?
